The guide is tailored for small to medium-sized businesses and developed with Work Health and Safety regulators, as well as representatives from unions and industry groups.
It outlines the risks of flammable liquids and providing detailed steps on how to manage their inherent risks such as:
Working out how flammable the chemicals you store are
Which other chemicals they’re safe to be around
How to make sure there is proper ventilation
Ensuring you have correct fire-fighting equipment Provides advice about workplace placarding for businesses storing large quantities of flammable liquids
The report includes businesses that may be using or storing flammable hand sanitisers in response to COVID-19. It shares some simple steps to be taken when storing or rebottling hand sanitiser such as ensuring your chemical safety data sheet is stored in a safe place.
To summarise the report, you must ensure your workplace;
Has a hazardous chemical register
A manifest that provides information on hazardous chemicals for use by emergency services
A site plan to help emergency services by providing information about your workplace layout
